ABOUT SCENE CHANGES
SceneChanges is the work of Pat Hackbarth, an avid reader and sometime
writer who, in the course of doing graduate work in geography, couldn’t
help but link various environmental stressors with literary works
featuring the landscapes in question. As the literary landscape
wreckage piled up, she began to think of collecting a number of
examples in a form that could bring the larger picture to serious
readers, with suggestions for constructive action. Several writers gave
the project two thumbs up, and an editor suggested an online format to
enable both general accessibility and easy updating of such a timely
topic. This website is the result. A number of teachers looking for
interactive projects for their students inspired the ongoing addition
of links to Google's Earth Engine and its timelapse images (look for more of these coming up). The potential for new pages is likely to continue until
humans stop despoiling the Earth or writers stop writing books,
whichever comes first.
